After earning numerous awards for his still-life and scenic photography, Jon directed his talents to portraiture. Nationally known for his unique illustrative style, Jon Allyn, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has owned and operated Jon Allyn Photography since 1979. As a PPA Affiliated Juror, he has been honored to serve as an international print judge in the Photographic Open, Commercial and Electronic Imaging categories. He is also a member of the esteemed Camera Craftsmen of America.
Past-President of the American Society of Photographers, Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association, SouthCentral Professional Photographers Association, and the Southeastern Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association, Master of Photography, Master Artist, Photographic Craftsman, Certified Electronic Imager, PPA Councilor and Fellow of the WPPA, SCPA, SEWPPA, and ASP, Jon also enjoys a reputation as a dynamic speaker and photographic instructor. His vast knowledge and quick wit has been educating and entertaining audiences for over a decade. An instructor at Winona International School of Professional Photography, Golden Gate School, California Photographic Workshops, and numerous seminars and workshops, his passion for photography and life has influenced and inspired his peers.
Although known to most as a portrait photographer, Jon has also compiled an impressive list of commercial and corporate clients. In 2010, he established The Art of The Sport, specializing in personalized sports art for home decor.
In 1999, Jon was again named “Wisconsin Photographer of the Year” and SEWPPA “Photographer of the Year”. He also received two Court of Honor awards, two Outstanding Artistic Quality, two Judge’s Choice awards and the Clean Sweep award, with three entries being accepted into the Wisconsin Loan Collection. The South Central Photographers Association also awarded him the “Outstanding Achievement” Award, Print of the Year, Court of Honor, Highest Scoring Portrait, Highest Scoring Illustrative, and Highest Scoring Commercial awards.
In 2000, Jon was awarded “2nd Runner-Up Wisconsin Photographer of the Year” with two State Loan prints, two Court of Honor, two Judges Choice and two Outstanding Artistic Quality awards. Three of his four PPA sealed merit prints were honored by being selected into the ASP 100 Master’s Loan Collection. Jon also was 4 for 4 with his first entries in the Electronic Imaging category.
In 2001, Jon was awarded “Wisconsin Electronic Imager of the Year”, with two State Loan prints, Court of Honor, two Judges Choice, two Outstanding Artistic Quality awards, Fuji Masterpiece Award, and the Foveon Award for Best Digital Image. He again was honored with 2 images being selected for the ASP 100 Master’s Loan Collection. SEWPPA named him “Photographer of the Year” and awarded him, Print of the Year and Court of Honor. He also received “Photographer of the Year” and Print of the Year honors from SCPA.
Jon did not compete in 2002. In 2003, Jon was second runner-up Photographer of the Year and received Best of Show Illustrated, Best of Show Commercial, Best of Show Electronic Imaging, Kodak Gallery Award, Court of Honor, Outstanding Artistic Quality, Judges Choice, the ASP State Elite Award and three State Loan prints. He again received “Photographer of the Year”, Court of Honor, the Portrait and Electronic Images of the Year, from SCPA.
Some previous honors include two-time WPPA, three-time SEWPPA and five-time SCPA Photographer of the Year, Print of the Year fifteen times, four-time Kodak Gallery Award winner, three Fuji Masterpiece Awards, Wisconsin Best of Show four times, Judge’s Choice Award ten times, twelve Outstanding Artistic Quality Awards, thirty-four Grand Awards, fourteen Court of Honor awards, two President’s awards, and 2 “100” scoring prints. Jon Allyn’s work has been seen displayed in the ASP 100 Master’s Loan Collection, the Epcot collection at Disney World and the Professional Photographer’s Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.
